We had 2 teams (8-10 & 11/12) entered for this new Relay event swimming 5 events of Freestyle, Brst, Fly, Back and Cannon, and our 8 to 10 year olds did extremely well winning the Silver medal for the 4 x 50m Fly (Caitlyn, Matthew, Jordan and Meagan) – well done!

A noisy long day and hot!

Thank you to Gillian Bowie for her assistance on poolside and to Barbara Harrison, Linda Crawford, Nicci McPherson & Andrew Bycroft for timekeeping.

 Report -

Aimee Crawford and Hanna Diab represented Alford Otters in the North District Age Group Championships in Inverness.

Hannah swam in the 200 and 800 freestyle and the 400IM.  She managed to record personal bests in all three events and as an added bonus managed a personal best in the 100 fly during her 400IM.

Aimee matched Hannah with 4 personal best swims, firstly in the 200 breaststroke, with a 100 breaststroke PB at half way, then a further reduction in her 100 breaststroke time in the race proper and a 100 butterfly personal best time aswell.

Aimee and Hanna swam well against girls in the same 10-12 year age group that they will be swimming in next year and it was exciting to share the pool with Commonwealth Games swimmers Hannah Miley and Kerry Buchan.  This was a really fast meet featuring the fastest swimmers in the North District.

Elgin Meet 16 - 17/02/2008

A small team of 5 swimmers took part in the Elgin meet however there were some amazing swims with 23 pb’s from 31 swims.

Aimee Crawford and Andrew Whyte led the way with 7 pb’s each and Aimee winning not only 2 Gold, 2 Silver and a bronze medal but the Silver Quaich for best girl in her age group (10-11)

Andrew Whyte took 41 seconds off his 200 Fly time and won a bronze medal for his 200 Brst where he took 14 seconds off his pb. Andrew Jessiman had 4 pb’s which included 8 seconds off his 200 free and 6 seconds off his 200 bc. He also had the best tumble turn ever seen by an otters swimmer in his 50fc, going from 5th at the start of the turn to 1st at the end of the turn !!

Eilidh had 4 pbs including 12 seconds of her 400 fc time. Jennifer took 10 seconds off her 200 fly pb.

In addition to the swims the behaviour was excellent with some good banter between our swimmers and the Elgin swimmers who were communicationg across the pool using their Nintendo DS machines, Quite how is beyond me !!

Thanks to our officials Durno and Linda Crawford who was taking part in her first Gala. Durno was not scheduled to officiate but helped out on both Saturday and Sunday.               BY Colin Macdonald

Cults Otters Novice Gala - 10th February

Well done to our swimmers and especially our medal winners.  As you can see vertually every
swim was a new personal best time or on their pb. The most impressive results from Caitlyn
with more than 14secs off 3 of her events, Isobel took nearly 20secs off her IM and three swimmers took 16 secs off: Lauren off her IM, and Elise & Cameron C off their Brst. A lot of very good PBs.             Lynne

We had incredibly well behaved children who didn’t eat too many sweets or have powerade drinks

and therefore were not hyper - well done parents!  During the races they sat well, cheered each
other on and all swam as if their lives depended on it, brilliant.  Lauren swam really hard in the last stretch of both relay events making up loads of ground, and Caitlyn's Fly was beautiful. Well done one and all, you were a real credit to the club and yourselves.                               Julie

Thank you to our 'Coaches' Julie Green, Jenni Morrison & Gillian Bowie and to our officials Durno.

City of Glasgow Long Course Age group meet 2&3 February 2008

What a brilliant weekend.  Aimee and her cash of medals and some fantastic results and
good swims, especially from Andrew W & William both taking 14 secs off their 200 FC
and Ellie taking 11secs off.  But what a result from John taking 11 secs off his 50 Fly
and what a swim at the end of a weekend.
All of you were great, too many to mention here.  Keep up the good work.
            Lynne

Everyone was so well behaved and put so much effort in to their swims - Well done.    Jenni

Dyce Mini Meet 20th January 2008

Well done to all.  Amazing number of finalists and the club came 4th! Congratulations to our Medal winners and finalists.  Two of our swimmers made the finals for all 4 strokes! A huge thanks to all our swimmers for their fantastic behaviour on poolside and the great team spirit they had. We received comments from other coaches about the great performance of our swimmers and their team spirit being the only swimmers receiving medals and clapping for the other medal winners.
